Backblaze employees cannot reset or recover the PEK on a backup. If a PEK is lost, forgotten, or otherwise unknown, it will not be possible to access the backed up data. Each computer under a single Backblaze account may have it's own unique PEK. They allow you to backup External USB drives, but not NAS's. I don't want to take advantage of BackBlaze by trying to backup 9999999 Terabytes, but I would like to backup at least 1TB of stuff. Granted, it isn’t the best solution for cloud storage (see pCloud for that instead). In tests from my SSD equipped laptop the optimum setting is about -transfers 32 though higher numbers may be used for a slight speed improvement. It is not possible to view or restore files from the backup of a computer secured with a PEK without the key. It's one of those 5 a month, backup everything buffet type companies like Mozy or Carbornite, but I like it more. Backblaze recommends that you do lots of transfers simultaneously for maximum speed. However, any user may add an additional level of encryption to their backup in the Security settings by adding a Private Encryption Key (PEK).Īdding a Private Encryption Key (PEK) adds an additional layer of security to the backup. You can read the general overview of how Backblaze uses encryption to secure your data here. By default, Backblaze encrypts all data that is backed up both in transmission and when it is written to disk in our data center.
